Admissions

The UBC-Langara Aboriginal Transfer Program provides First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students with a pathway to earning a degree at UBC. Here’s how the program works:

Apply to Langara

Your first step is to apply to Langara College. The academic requirements for admission to Langara College are:

  • Successful completion of a BC secondary program (Grade 12) or the equivalent, or
  • Be at least 19 years of age by the first day of the first semester of attendance, or
  • Successful completion of an A.B.E. (Adult Basic Education) or G.E.D. (General Educational Development) program.

Complete the Program Requirements

To transfer to UBC through this program, you have to meet the university’s general requirements for admission as a transfer student. Below is a list of program requirements by Faculty.

Faculty of Arts

  • UBC’s Admissions policy requires students to complete a minimum of 24 transferable credits.  At least 18 of the 24 transferable credits must be from Langara College.
  • To be eligible for the UBC Langara Aboriginal Transfer Partnership, students must attain an academic average of 2.67 or greater on the most recent 24-30* transferable credits attempted. If in a particular year the competitive GPA is lower than 2.67, then the applicant will be evaluated against the lower admission average.
  • Successful completion of the writing component (UBC WRDS 150 or ENGL 100) or equivalent with a final grade of C+ (2.33 on the Langara grading scale) or higher.
  • Successful completion of the Transition Plan offered by Langara in collaboration with UBC.
  • Students who have received a failed year may be eligible for the UBC Langara Aboriginal Transfer Partnership. Please contact Celia Reimer at UBC Admissions to discuss further.

*If students have completed more than 24 transferable credits, the admission average is based on the most recent 30 transferable credits attempted, including failed and retaken courses.

Faculty of Science

  • Successfully complete at least 48 (and no more than 60) credits.
  • Attain an admission average of 2.67 or greater on the most recent 30 credits of transferable courses attempted, including failed and retaken courses.
  • Completion of required high school academic pre-requisites. In some cases, university transferable coursework may satisfy these pre-requisites.
  • Complete Math 100 or Langara equivalent
  • Successfully complete the ATP Transition Plan offered by Langara in collaboration with UBC

Faculty of Commerce

  • Successfully complete the prerequisite requirements for Year 2 or Year 3 entry.
  • Attain an overall final grade point average (GPA) of 2.67 (B-) or higher calculated on the most recent 30 credits, including failed and retaken courses. If in a particular year the competitive admission criterion is lower than 2.67, then the lower criterion applies.
  • Attain a core GPA of 2.67 (B-) or higher
    — for Year 2 entry, this is calculated on all transferable Economics, English, and the required Math (Differential Calculus) courses. All attempts at core courses are used in the calculation of your core average
    — for Year 3 entry, this is calculated on all transferable Commerce equivalent courses, including failed and retaken courses
  • Submit a BCom Personal Profile
  • Successfully complete the ATP Transition Plan offered by Langara in collaboration with UBC

School of Kinesiology

  • Successful completion of at least 24 transferable credits;
  • An academic average of 2.67 or greater on the most recent 30 credits of transferable courses attempted, including failed and retaken courses. If in a particular year the competitive admission criteria is lower than 2.67, then the applicant will be evaluated against the lower admission criteria.
  • Completion of required high school academic prerequisites. In some cases, university transferable coursework may satisfy these pre-requisites.
  • Submit a Personal Profile
  • Successful completion of the Transition Plan offered by Langara in collaboration with UBC
  • Applicants who do not meet these requirements may be considered for admission as a general transfer student and can be considered through UBC’s Aboriginal Admissions Policy.

Faculty of Land and Food Systems

  • Successful completion of at least 48 (and no more than 60) credits (within the last four years). Students who present at least 54 credits, and have completed all first-year requirements (with the exception of LFS 100), may be eligible for third-year standing;
  • An academic average of at least 2.67 or greater on the most recent 30 credits of transferable courses attempted, including failed and retaken courses. If in a particular year the competitive admission criterion is lower than 2.67, then the lower criterion applies.
  • Completion of required high school academic pre-requisites. In some cases, university transferable coursework may satisfy these pre-requisites;
  • Successful completion of the Transition Plan offered by Langara in collaboration with UBC
  • Consultation with the LFS Aboriginal Student Coordinator Joel Liman (joel.liman@ubc.ca) on course selection while at Langara.

Faculty of Applied Science

  • Successful completion of the Engineering Transfer Program with a GPA of 2.8 or better over a 24-month period ending no later than April 30 preceding September entry.
  • Successful completion of the ATP Transition Plan offered by Langara in collaboration with UBC.

Faculty of Forestry

  • Successfully complete at least 30 and no more than 60 credits
  • Attain an admission average of 2.20 or greater on the most recent 30 transferable credits attempted, including failed and retaken courses.
  • Completion of required high school academic prerequisites.  In some cases, university transferable coursework may satisfy these prerequisites.
  • Successfully complete the Transition Plan offered by Langara in collaboration with UBC
  • Course selection will depend on the undergraduate program selected.  These can be found in the UBC calendar and students will be mentored individually.
